Here are our 12 London Greenway routes:

1. DIANA, PRINCESS OF WALES MEMORIAL ROUTE (6.5 MILES)

The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Walk, in London, celebrates the life of the Princess of Wales who tragically died in a car accident on 31 August 1997 in Paris. The walk was constructed at a cost of £1.3 million.

The route passes between Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park, Green Park and St. James's Park in a figure-eight pattern, passing five sites that are associated with Princess Diana's life: Kensington Palace, Spencer House, Buckingham Palace, St. James's Palace, and Clarence House. It is marked with ninety individual plaques, each of which has a heraldic rose etched in the centre made of aluminium. Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who was the Chairman of the Diana, Princess of Wales, Memorial Committee was quoted as saying it is "one of the most magnificent urban parkland walks in the world."

2. DOLLIS VALLEY (9.4 MILES)

The Green walk links areas of public open space along the Dollis Valley in a green chain, to provide a pleasant and quiet long distance walk between the Green Belt and Hampstead Heath, right through the heart of Barnet. The walk was developed and implemented by the London Borough of Barnet in 1992, it now forms part of Walk London’s extensive network of walks and provides a link in both the London LOOP and the Capital Ring.

3. NEW RIVER PATH (12 MILES)

"Neither new, nor a river”

The New River is a man-made channel dug in the early 17th century to bring clean water from Hertfordshire into London. The path follows the New River channel as closely as possible, from open countryside with riverside paths, to the inner-city streets, where, from the 'Castle' at Stoke Newington, it finishes with a 3-mile Heritage Section, where the route follows a historic but now truncated course through open spaces and on-street.

4. RODING VALLEY GREENWAY (9.3 MILES)

The Roding Valley is a unique green space found in East London and provides a green link with the neighbouring county of Essex. Used by many for leisure, recreation and travel, it is a place where you can enjoy nature, walk, cycle, horse ride and fish. Many use the Roding Valley Way path to access other parks in the area, as a shortcut to various town centres/locations and as a green (off the road, traffic free) commuter/cycle route. The walk from Redbridge to Roding Valley Meadows Nature Reserve is highly recommended, although wellies are recommended in wet weather.

5. CELANDINE - SPRINT EDITION (8.7 MILES)

The Celandine Route is a London trail following the river Pinn from Pinner to the Grand Union Canal, through green spaces, grassland, woods and meadows. It was named after the lesser Celandine, a plant growing in woodland with heart-shaped leaves and flowering in early spring.

The route is flat and fast, has relatively few major road intersections but can get muddy after wet weather.

10. WANDLE TRAIL (10.8 MILES)

The river Wandle itself is a tributary of the Thames to the south west of London, consisting of 15 miles of rich chalk stream habitat in good condition, which in its industrial heyday, was the ‘hardest working river in London’, with over 90 mills along its banks throughout time. The river rises in two sources - the Waddon and Carshalton.

The Trail mostly follows the Wandle River, and runs for about 12.5 miles (20km) from East Croydon Station to the Thames Path in Wandsworth near Wandsworth Town train station.
