Transgrancanaria with Brooks Catamount 2

To celebrate the launch of the new Brooks Catamount 2, we headed to Gran Canaria with Brooks and Ultra-Distance Trail Runner Mark Peart.

Mark took on the gruelling @transgrancanaria Marathon 45km, a race filled with killer climbs and daring descents.
He wore the new Brooks Catamount 2 Trail Running Shoes (pictured below). With light, responsive cushioning, plus grippy traction and a SkyVault propulsion plate for uphill efficiency, this shoe was the perfect choice to tackle the challenging rocky terrain.

We spoke to Mark about this incredible experience;
With around 1,900m ascent and just under 3,000m of rocky descent, this race is aptly named ‘The Quad Buster’. Measured at 45.4km (over 28 miles), it's technically classed as an ultra-marathon.
The atmosphere at the start-line was party central, with banging music and a big crowd to see us off – the prevailing shout being ‘ANIMO’! The start was more that of a 5km sprint than a mountain marathon. This was because after a quick 2km through the village you hit a single track and then began the first big climb.

The race was very much split into two halves, with the first half covering a majority of the ascending, leaving some monster descents for the second half. Last year’s average time was around 7hrs, and with over 1,200 runners taking part, I was really happy with my performance and finishing in the top 30.
It was such an amazing event, with so much energy and support from start to finish. I can conclude that this race fully deserves the title of ‘The Quad Buster’!

I ran in the Brooks Catamount 2. I found these light, responsive, with grippy traction. These were fresh out of the box for the race and I couldn’t have been happier with their performance.
